I just returned from a 3 week study of Chinese herbs, fertility and gynecology in China. In China, Chinese medicine is practiced in the hospital. When the patient comes in for their herbal appointment with the doctor, the doctor will often send them down to Imaging for an ultrasound. In 10 minutes, the doctor knows the status of the patient's ovaries (are there multiple cysts as in PCOS, is there a dominate follicle being created, did the patient ovulate, what is the size and number of follicles that day), the endometrium (what is the thickness of the lining? any growths? inflammation?), the status of the cervix (infection?) and the Fallopian tubes (twisted? adhesions?). With that information, the doctor has much complete information at hand to be able to write a formula that is most helpful for the patient for the next few days, the next week, 2 weeks or month to help resolve gyn issues or aid fertility.
We don't have that ability here in the US.
I heard recently that it might cost the patient $300 if I requested similar imaging. Who's more advanced? West meet East in China wins hands down in my opinion.

2 of our patients became pregnant this week, one moved safely into the 2nd trimester and one gave birth. We are happy for all of them! It is such an honor to be part of this journey with these women.

2 weeks and 2 days to China! The report I received this am is that the bird flu is being managed and the government is being transparent and proactive. The people in Nanjing are moving around as business as usual. The herb portion in Anhui is unknown at this time. As with all things in life,whether I am consciously aware of it, it's one day at a time. So looking forward to expanding my knowledge of women's health, fertility and Chinese herbs! Oh, and maybe get a Chinese massage or two
