Pinealoma Definition
Pinealoma is defined as a rare type of tumor that grows at a slow rate in the patient's brain. This disease is often referred to as pineocytoma or pinealocytoma.

Diagnosis of pinealoma is done radiographically and clinically. Aside from neurological and radiographic findings, ventriculography or pneumoencephalography may help in achieving a very reliable diagnosis.
Pinealoma Treatment
Various treatment options are available depending on the extent or severity of the patient's pinealoma. Some people will be asked to undergo radio therapy. Others may need to go through surgery. However, there are studies which pointed out that radiation therapy, regardless if the patient has undergone surgery or not, should be considered as the first choice of treatment. Still, surgery remains to be the means of diagnosis or treatment option for those whose response to radiation is delayed.

Experts believe that pinealomas are caused by the proliferation of the germ cells, astrocytes, or of the pineoblastomas and pineocytomas, or what are known as the primary pineocytes.
Pinealoma Causes
There are 12 known and recorded symptoms of pinealoma, and these are: hydrocephalus, gait disturbance, double vision, blurred vision, eye pain, premature puberty,insomnia, altered sleeping patterns, hearing impairment, upward gaze paralysis, headache, and vomiting.
