Maine children’s book author, Nancy Prince, will read and sign copies of Libby’s Loons, at the Children’s Discovery Museum in Augusta on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 10:30 AM. A related loon art project will follow the book reading.
Libby’s Loons is a children’s picture book written by Prince and illustrated by artist Luanne Wrenn, who has provided vibrant water color illustrations throughout the book. Both author and illustrator live in Wilton, Maine.
Prince notes that she received her inspiration from paddling her kayak near her home on Wilson Lake. Libby's adventures with the loons mirror her own experiences. The author hopes that through Libby's eyes, young readers will learn about these remarkable waterfowl and discover the motivation to protect animals they love.
As an educator and conservationist Prince advocates for public awareness of loons’ vulnerability to interference from natural and human invasions of their habitat. She facilitates an annual educational program on loons and loon research for Wilton, ME school children. The project is offered by BioDiversity Research Institute, a science-based nonprofit located in Gorham, ME and is sponsored by the Wilton lake association, Friends of Wilson Lake.

Watershed Science Program was at Carrie Ricker School today in Litchfield. 100 Fourth Graders learned about Loons, by using the Maine Audubon "Loon Box"...which includes this loon mount.
